Partner overcalled 2C, the opponents got to 3D and made 5.
Marshall Miles recommends overcalling 1S, 3C later if necessary. In his book, the example hands for partner always contain a stiff club and 5 card spade support. You know what? He was right!

3H is plenty for me on the first. I'm not exactly cancelling a lot of partner's losers.
ReplyDeleteMiles can be a bit off the beaten path, but there's also method to his madness. I think the most important point is that partner should be aware of your habits here - lest he decide to raise 2S to 3S with xx x in the majors....
